Relationships: Individual and Interpersonal Counselling

Relationships come in many forms, including romantic relationships, relationships with family members, friends, work colleagues, teachers and relationship with self. Individual and Interpersonal counselling explores all aspects of yourself in relationship.

Grief, Loss and Bereavement

Grief, loss and bereavement often underpins the reasons people seek counselling. The experience of loss can challenge who we think we are and how we view ourselves in the world. Grief is part of a normal response to loss of any kind. How we grieve and navigate our way through the pain of loss is intensely personal and individual.

If you are finding it difficult to manage on a day-to-day basis, it may be helpful to see a counsellor/psychotherapist.  It’s okay to admit you are struggling with your grief.

Anxiety and Stress

Anxiety and stress are normal components of our everyday lives and contribute to our motivation to make change. However, elevated and prolonged levels of anxiety and stress can become overwhelming and debilitating, impacting both physically and emotionally. In my work with clients, I offer new resources and tools that support a client’s ownership of their ability to re- orientate and build on their own resilience and create opportunity for change.

Self Esteem and Self Worth

Beliefs, thoughts and feelings shape a person’s self-esteem and self-worth, directly influencing how they see and experience the world.

Our self esteem is not set for life, it is adaptable and responds when we reframe our negative beliefs about ourselves.  Our level of self esteem depends on how we feel about ourselves; what we believe about ourselves and the worth we place on ourselves.

A good sense of self-worth is the ability recognise ones weaknesses, limitations and foibles and still know that this awareness does not interfere with your ability to fully accept yourselves and know that you are inherently worthy.

The more individuals recognise their challenges with self esteem and self-worth, the more aware they become of changes that can be made.

Life Directions and Transitions

Deciding how you want your life to be and navigating your life transitions or changes to your future direction can be both challenging and confusing, tapping into a range of uncomfortable emotions and it can also be a joyful, rewarding liberating process that feels light and easy.

Who we are and who we become, as well as what we see, and what we believe, is determined by perception.  Each individual has their own perception of how the world works, and the belief that their perception is the “real” one or the one shared by everyone. This is not always the case.

Clinical Supervision

I am a PACFA (Psychologists and Counsellors Federation of Australia) Accredited Supervisor and have been providing Clinical Supervision to counsellors and those working in caring professions for over 8 years.

I believe supervision to be mutual working alliance where the supervisee can safely reflect on their work, learn, be accountable and empowered, it flags blind spots and considers higher levels of ethical thinking. The supervision relationship supports the development of reflective Supervisees who think about their work, as they work and build on that reflection to do even better work. I hold supervision to be an essential element in the maintenance of high quality counselling, mental health or pastrol care support.
